If you think marketing doesn't work, consider the millions of people who now think bran tastes good.

If the circus is coming to town and you paint a sign saying "Circus Coming to Town this Saturday" that's advertising.

If you put the sign on the back of an elephant and walk it into town, that's promotion.

If the elephant walks through the mayor's flower bed, that's publicity.

And if you get the press to print a funny quote from the mayor, that's public relations.

But if the people never wanted a circus in the first place, thatís bad marketing.
